Frequently Asked Questions About Kid’s Classes, Camps, and Birthday Parties

Learn How it Works!

Can I participate/stay with my child for the event?

Kids Classes (Ages 6-17) are drop-off only classes. Due to space limitations, we simply cannot accommodate parents. However, we do encourage you to come back 10 minutes prior to pick-up, in order to taste a sample of what your child has made.

Mommy, Daddy, or Caregiver and Me Classes: Due to the ages of our little buds (2-5), and the amount of assistance they need, these classes are designed so that you can be your child’s personal sous chef. One parent or caregiver is included in the price and may participate. Space limitations do not allow two adults to participate with a child.

Family Workshops: Bring the whole family! Each participant will register and have their own seat. At least one adult 18+ must register with the children.

Can you tell me more about the kid’s camps?

When school is closed, we are open!  Summer, Spring, and Winter Break, as well as teacher planning days and school holidays, are camp days at Budding Chef.  Classes will be separated by age; the morning class will run from 9 am to 12 pm for ages 4-8, and the afternoon class will run from 1 pm – 4 pm for ages 9-13.  There is an option, for an additional fee, to drop off a half hour early and pick up a half hour late on both sessions.

Do you make accommodations for food allergies or dietary restrictions?

Please know that we are NOT an allergy-free or nut-free facility. Remember, while the recipes can be modified, we are not an allergy-free facility for modified ingredients. We do, however, have the ability to cater an entire event to accommodate different dietary needs/restrictions, including gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, and vegan. For your safety, individual adjustments cannot be made at an event that is open to the public. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

When should I arrive for my child’s birthday party?

If you are hosting a party, please do not start gathering inside until 10 minutes before the scheduled party time. We may be clearing out from a prior event, and due to space limitations, we cannot accommodate guests from both events.  You may arrive earlier and wait outside.  Time management is very important since we run back-to-back events.  We will start promptly at the party time, regardless of latecomers.  Please stress to your guests the importance of being timely.

Is gratuity included in the price?

Gratuity is not included in the price (except for corporate events) however, showing your appreciation for your culinary team’s hard work is always appreciated.   Let’s face it… we all knead the dough!  All kidding aside, if you wish to add a gratuity, it will be calculated based on your event total at the time of registration.  Please note that this will be charged as a separate transaction after your event.

Can I drop in to a kids class or semester class if I haven’t registered?

If the calendar shows availability, but the sign-up window has closed, please contact us directly.  For the weekly cooking club classes that students sign up for in a quarterly semester format, if the calendar shows there is availability for a class, you may register for a one-time class before committing to the full semester. Please contact us directly to book. If, after the class, you’d like to join mid-semester, the amount will be prorated.

What should kids wear?

Keep those piggies covered! Closed-toe shoes are preferred, and ponytails or hair pulled back. We will have aprons available, but kids should wear comfortable clothing that can get messy.

Can I bring decorations, themed paper goods, and my own birthday cake for a party?

You may bring balloons or a small table centerpiece. No other decorations are to be brought. We provide the children with plates and silverware to eat what they create. You may bring an outside birthday cake and themed paper plates for a cake if you’d like (we do not have room in our refrigerators to store the cake). We will provide traditional birthday candles. Our team will prepare the birthday blowout and cut and serve the cake. We do offer an option for the children to make cupcakes instead of a birthday cake, a fun activity that we strongly recommend. They are here to cook and bake, after all!

Can I bring outside food/drinks for chaperones?

We do offer the option to purchase food for your chaperones. If you would like to bring in outside food, you may do so for an additional cost of $50. We will set up the trays on our hosting station, provide paper goods, and clean up. Please note that we do not have the ability to store any food in our refrigerator or to heat any food. Outside beverages may not be brought into the studio. We offer a beverage station with iced tea, lemonade, or fruit-infused water, for an additional charge. We will have wine and beer available for purchase. If you would like to provide wine or beer to your chaperones, a cash bar is always available. You may purchase drink tickets in advance. Regular water is available at no charge.

What is your cancellation/rescheduling policy?

Due to high demand, and limited seating, we do not offer refunds. If you cannot be in attendance at your scheduled event, a request must be received within 48 hours before the start time of your event. Following this procedure, we will issue a credit for use on a future date, minus a 10% fee. After the 48-hour window, you may send a sibling or friend in your child’s absence; however, no refund or credit will be issued.

How do we sign the mandatory waivers? How are waivers for our party guests handled?

Due to our insurance requirements, executed waivers are required for guest participation. You will receive a clickable link in your confirmation email directing you to our online smart waiver. Please note, that we do run on a tight schedule, and will not have time to handle waivers at the studio. Waivers must be completed online prior to the event.  The waiver must be signed by A PARENT for all minors (no caretakers of any kind may execute a waiver for a minor). If any guests have not completed a waiver, they will not be able to participate in the event. If you are hosting a party, it is your responsibility to be sure we have all your guest’s emails in order for us to email waivers to them in advance
